How do you deal with resumé rejection? What do you do when after such an amazing interview, you didn’t get that call saying “you made it”? Do you get discouraged or do you stay positive?

The more positive you are about your job seeking experience, the more effective you would be with the entire job search process. I would agree that this is not one of the easiest things to do, because with each job application comes a waiting period due to hiring processes. This could make the job search seem like its taking forever.

Hold on. You’re almost there.

Below are some strategies that would assist you in staying positive during the recruitment process and eventually help you in getting a job.

Focus on the lesson in every experience

The longer the job search/recruitment process, the easier it is for you to walk away and give up on the whole process all-together. Current research shows that active learning from every aspect of your job search would eventually add up and get you a job. The more you try to learn from each challenge you face while searching for a job, the more positive you will feel. This changes your entire mindset while looking for a job, and makes the process less depressing.

Stay Healthy

Job searching can be a pretty sedentary task. On some days, you will find out that you have been in front of your computer for long, uninterrupted hours. Combining that with the mental stress that comes along with the job search process in itself, that could be a recipe that could set you up for depression.

The solution is to make time out to exercise, eat healthy and keep your spirits up at all times. Schedule times during your day to take a walk, go for a run or hit the gym. You would have more energy, and a positive approach during the long hours of your job search.

Set your expectations before tendering your application

Imagine this, you apply for a job; and you expect the company to contact you within two days, but instead they contact you after two weeks! What is worse than that wait period? Nothing.

To avoid that feeling, carry out research on the company’s hiring/recruitment culture before applying. Also, ensure you search for the nature of questions they ask during their interview questions, in order to give you an idea of what you should expect incase you are called impromptu. This would give you an insight of what their applicants usually go through, and also a time frame to expect their response.

Overall, Staying Positive is the trick of the trade while searching for a job. This would assist you in focusing on the lessons to be learnt in every experience. This applies during and after your job search process.

Stay Positive. Have a Splendid Day.

Sincerely,
