PushCV Interview With Falz: Episode 1

Admit it, you have jumped 10 feet high after receiving the call to set up a schedule for an interview with the company you have so longed to work for.

You have learned everything you could about the company from their website, the history and founders, planned the best route and time to get there 30 minutes early, prepared your best clothes, and sprayed perfume all over where your hand can reach your body. You already even know EXACTLY what you will be doing on the job. We’ve all been through this; an interview is not a fun experience.

I am the kind of person who values honesty over professionalism, and I like to laugh at the oversaid things that we keep repeating everyday in the sacred practice we call “job search”.

I imagine that was what was on Falz’s mind as he answered one of the hardest interview questions you can ever get:

But if you’re NOT like Falz, then you’d probably like to get the REAL answer to the question:

What are your career goals and where do you see yourself five years from now?

The interviewer wants to understand more about your career goals and how this position would fit into your grand plan. Your interviewer does not want to invest time and effort in someone who is already planning to leave for something better as soon as it comes along.

The key here is to focus on your achievable objectives and what you are doing to reach those objectives. Your answer to this question needs to be tailored to the particular job you are interviewing for.

Sample Answer: Within 5 years, I would like to become the very best accountant your company has on staff. I want to work toward becoming the expert that others rely on. Hopefully, this will allow me to take on greater responsibilities with the company if the opportunity arises. I am also working towards additional certifications in the field to enhance my career potential.

Now go forth and succeed at that interview!

Cheers,
